Sarah Silverman in Intimate Scenes from the Addiction Drama I Smile Back (2015)

Sarah Silverman stars as Laney Brooks in “I Smile Back” (2015), the dark drama directed by Adam Salky and adapted from the novel by Amy Koppelman. Best known for comedy, Silverman earned some of the best reviews of her career for this dramatic turn as a suburban wife whose comfortable life is unravelling because of depression, addiction and reckless affairs. Josh Charles plays her husband Bruce, and Thomas Sadoski plays Donny, the man she keeps returning to behind his back. This compilation gathers several of the film’s intimate moments. Laney stands in a doorway and lies back in a bath, shares tense scenes in bed with Donny in a hotel room, and spends restless nights alone as her mood spirals. The tone is raw and sad rather than glamorous, and the sex in the film is shown as part of Laney’s self destructive pattern. Silverman appears nude in several scenes. The film is a sobering portrait of mental illness that drew comparisons with earlier dramas about addiction. Note that this is not from “The Sarah Silverman Program”, as the earlier title claimed.
