Sarah O’Sullivan appears in “Banshee” (2013 to 2016), the Cinemax crime series about an ex convict who assumes the identity of a small town sheriff in Pennsylvania. The show is known for its violence, its criminal underworld and its bold storytelling. In this scene Sarah’s character is held on a bare mattress in a dim warehouse, where a man grabs and attacks her while a camera crew films. Moments later the operation is interrupted by an armed raid, and the scene turns into one of the show’s trademark bursts of action. Sarah is topless during the opening moments, but the scene is about exploitation and the criminals behind it, and the raid is presented as a rescue. Much of the sequence is very dark, lit only by work lights and the glow of camera equipment, which adds to its grim mood. Banshee often used episodes like this to show the cruelty of the people Lucas Hood and his deputies were up against. A tense, uncomfortable moment from a series that never shied away from difficult material.
