Sara Malakul Lane stars in a 2014 women’s prison thriller from The Asylum, the studio known for fast, low budget genre films. The story follows a woman sent to a harsh penitentiary, where corrupt guards and rival inmates make every day a struggle to survive. In this scene a guard in a suit takes Sara’s character into a back room and lays her on a table, and in several shots her mouth appears taped. The scene shows the abuse of power by the prison staff and her lack of any real choice, and it is not presented as a romance. Sara appears topless. The film belongs to a long tradition of exploitation style prison dramas, with fights, cell block rivalries and escape plans, and this moment helps explain why her character turns against the guards later in the story. Sara Malakul Lane, a Thai and British actress who has worked across action and horror, carries the film with a tough, physical lead performance. A gritty slice of direct to video genre filmmaking from the mid twenty tens.
