Emy in the Lakeside Table Scene from the Finnish Horror Film Dead Bait (2016)

Emy appears in “Dead Bait” (2016), a bleak Finnish horror film about a lone man living beside a remote forest lake who attacks the people he finds there. In this scene her character has been tied face down to a rough wooden table at the water’s edge, and the man assaults her while she is unable to escape. She is fully nude, but the scene is staged as horror and shows the killer’s brutality, not seduction. The grey sky, the still lake and the absence of anyone else around make the moment feel cold and hopeless. Like the rest of the film, the sequence relies on its isolated setting and long, quiet takes rather than music or quick edits, which makes it more uncomfortable to watch. This part of the story comes after the opening scenes at the lake and before the film’s bloody climax, and it establishes just how dangerous the man is. Fans of extreme independent horror will recognise the style, but viewers should know that this is a scene of sexual violence before choosing to watch it.
